ABOUT US

The Augustinian Province of Saint Joseph was juridically established on the 13th of November 1967. Five Friars had come to Canada on the 4th of May, 1938 and settled in Tracadie, County of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. They were German Augustinian Friars who worked in the United States and established communities there also, particularly in Racine, Wisconsin (1925), New York, NY (1933), Kenosha, Wisconsin (1935).

After their arrival to Canada, they continue to serve the needs of the local church and founded communities in the Archdioceses of Toronto (1942), Vancouver (1943), and Ottawa (1953).

Presently, the Augustinians are serving in three parishes in the Archdiocese of Toronto, and one in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Besides parish ministries, they also provide retreat ministry at Marylake.

Under the direction of the Province of Chicago, the Canadian Province is committed to promote the charism of the Order in Canada and is willing to serve the needs of the local church.
